Gunmen Release Three Farmers abducted at CRIN, Ibadan

Three remaining cocoa farmers abducted by gunmen at the Cocoa Research Institute (CRIN),Ibadan, have regained their freedom after payment of ransom by the families

The apex body of Cocoa farmers, Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN), announced this in a statement on Saturday.

The released victims – Ayebusiwa Toyin, Ayebusiwa Tayo,and Omosoluyi Omoseyimi – were safely released on Saturday, 21st March, 2026.

They were kidnapped along with two others on Friday, 19th March, 2026, while on a familiarization visit to CRIN. The victims are all members of Ogun State chapter of CFAN.

The duo of Apostle William Solomon and Rufus Megbowon had earlier been released by the kidnappers on health grounds.

The association appreciated Nigerians for standing by it during the difficult and disturbing incident.

‘We also extend our gratitude to the management of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, State Security Service (DSS) , Oyo State Command, Amotekun,Oyo State Command,
the local hunters, the general public, and cocoa stakeholders both within Nigeria and in the diaspora for their unwavering prayers and support throughout this trying period.

“We earnestly pray that such an incident will not reoccur.

“Furthermore, we reiterate our call on the government at all levels, particularly the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, to strengthen and reinforce security measures in order to curb the illicit activities occurring within
and around its environment,” CFAN said.
