The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has begun the sorting and distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday, October 19, 2024, local government election in the state.
It was gathered that observers, security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, Department of State Services, DSS, including local vigilant were on ground to monitor the exercise.
The electoral body started the sorting and distribution of sensitive materials on Friday morning.
In a chat with journalists, the State Chairman of KOSIEC, Mamman Eri promised to conduct a transparent, free, and credible election in the state.
Eri pointed out that all the local government electoral officers are already on the ground to move the materials to various local government areas and various wards after collection from the SIEC office.
He sought the collaboration of all relevant stakeholders to ensure a hitch free exercise, assuring that adequate number of members of the law enforcement agencies, including the Police, have been deployed to all polling units in the state.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has declared a restriction of movement from 7am to 4pm on the election day. Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communication, conveyed the decision in a statement.
“The Kogi State Government announces the restriction of vehicular movement between the hours of 7am to 4pm on Saturday 19th October, 2024.
“The decision is to ensure a hitch-free Council Poll in the State and to guarantee the security of voters and citizens across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
“The State Government has directed security agencies to enforce the order in the interest of the people and to ensure that offenders are punished.”
