Kogi: PDP targets reconciliation, return to power

As the 2027 election year draw near, the Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on aggrievedemberd to close ranks and reiterated unwavering resolve to reclaim its rightful place, and return to power particularly in the state and Nigeria at large.

The declaration was made on Monday, 5 January by the State Chairman Muhammed Sanni Gambo during a joint meeting of the State Working Committee, SWC, and State Executive Committee, SEC, held at the party’s secretariat in Lokoja.

During the meeting, Gambo outlined the outcomes of the SWC and SEC deliberations, emphasizing the party’s call on all levels of government to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

“The nation, and Kogi State in particular, is at a crossroads. Sleeping with two eyes closed has become a major challenge,” Gambo stated, urging collaboration on concrete security measures to ensure that citizens can live, work, and travel without fear.

While acknowledging the state government’s security efforts, he stressed that more needs to be done, especially in Kogi West and other affected areas, as security remains a prerequisite for political and developmental progress.

On the forthcoming local government elections, Gambo announced that the PDP will field candidates in all 21 Local Government Areas, describing the LGAs as a bastion of democracy and the closest tier of government to the people. He urged the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to extend the timetable for candidate submissions, criticizing the abrupt closure of forms as “unacceptable and designed to exclude the PDP.” He expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious.

The Chairman also revealed plans to establish reconciliation and other committees to address grievances and foster unity within the party, emphasizing that “the PDP belongs to the people – women, youth, and all segments of society.”

Gambo declared that the Kogi PDP has entered a new era, urging members to put the past behind them and work together toward a brighter future. He called on all leaders, stakeholders, and members to support the rebuilding process and unite for the common good, asserting that together, the party can reclaim Aso Rock and Lugard House in 2027.

He concluded, “Let us make this sacrifice for posterity. As the major opposition party with structures across Nigeria, let us join the moving train to restore Nigeria and Kogi State to the days when families lived in dignity and pride. The time to take our rightful place is now.”
