Insecurity: Businessman Olusoji seeks more funding for security agencies

Collective efforts from all and sundry and better funding of the security agencies are key to winning the war against insecurity currently going on in Nigeria.

A Kogi born businessman and philanthropist Prince Olatunji Olusoji, who recently gave donations to the police, made the recommendation while entertaining questions from journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, 25 January.

He said a situation where criminals use more sophisticated weapons than those of state agencies put the lives of officers and men in avoidable danger, calling on governments at all levels, groups, and individuals to join the efforts to secure the country and maintain its peace.

“Security is a very expensive business. Recently, you will agree with me that the type of insecurity we have now is more sophisticated than what we used to have before. If you see the type of weapons bandits carry, you will discover that security operatives don’t have that.

“So the first victory to scatter these people is improved funding for the security agencies and giving them the necessary tools and gadgets. Technology is also key. Proper use of technology can locate and dislodge the criminals from their hiding places in the forests. If the government improves funding, motivates the personnel, and makes proper use of technology, insecurity will be curtailed.”

On the reasons behind his growing political activities in Kogi, the mechanical.engineer who recently joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, said giving is second nature to him and clarified that he does not have any immediate political ambition. He declared unalloyed support for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo.

On the agitation for power shift to Kogiwest and Okun land, he said it would be easier to achieve after Ododo’s second term and urged Okun people to support the governor’s second term bid. He called for unity in Okunland, noting that a divided house is a weak house.

Ododo was brought as a consensus candidate from Kogi central, Muritala Ajaka, brought as a consensus from Kogi Eastern block while many Okun leaders could not resolve for consensus candidate.

“This time around, we must continue to give maximum support and work assiduously for the realisation of Gov. Ododo’s 2nd term to enable us to be at advantage in 2031.” he stressed.
