Hunger: Senator advises FG on food importation

As the country grapples with economic challenges, a serving senator, Garba M. Maidoki has called on the Feseral Government to take proactive steps against anger and anarchy by making food available for the people.

Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, made the call on Saturday morning when he featured on the current state of the nation program in the Africa Independent Television, AIT.

The farmer turned a politician, who applauded the war against insecurity, identified food scarcity as a major problem confronting the nation, and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to set aside market forces and other protocols by making food available to the people, by all means including importation.

“There is no time for market forces. This is a crisis. Mr. President, let us bring in the food do that people can have what to eat. This is not a time to talk of market forces. Let us mport the food to guide against hunger and anger. The market forces can come later.”

While disclosing that the federal government has concluded plans to distribute fertilisers and other palliatives across the country, he appealed to the governors and his colleagues in the national assembly to ensure the items get to the grassroots.

Maidoki said this was not the time for politics and cautioned against hoarding the palliatives, noting that the people should not be pushed to the wall. He also cautioned the people against taking the law into the hands and violent acts
