Several people have been killed and many others injured following a late-night attack by suspected terrorists on the Dabagin Yari community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The assault, which occurred on Wednesday night, also led to the abduction of a large number of residents, including women and children, according to local sources.
Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed details of the incident in a post on X on Thursday, describing the attack as brutal and indiscriminate.
“Last night, terrorists invaded the Dabagin Yari community in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State,” he wrote.
“During the attack, several residents were killed, many others sustained injuries, and a high number of people, including women and children, were abducted.”
The attack has thrown the rural community into mourning, with families grieving the loss of loved ones and others anxiously awaiting news about those taken away by the assailants.
In his reaction, Bakatsine condemned the perpetrators and questioned attempts to justify their actions on religious grounds.
“The assault has left the community in deep fear and mourning. How can anyone justify calling such terrorists Muslim or claiming their crimes are acts of jihad, when Islam clearly forbids the murder of innocents, the kidnapping of women and children, and the spreading of terror?” he stated.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement confirming the casualty figures and the number of abducted victims.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said he would verify the report and respond accordingly.
However, he had yet to provide further details as of press time.
Residents of the area have called for an increased security presence to prevent further attacks, as concerns continue to mount over the persistent insecurity affecting communities across parts of the state.
