Finally, Doctor Regains Freedom after 10 months in captivity

After 10 months in captivity, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, has been freed.

Dr. Popoola was kidnapped on December 27, 2023, along with her husband, Squadron Leader Nurudeen Popoola, and her nephew, Folaranmi Abdul-Mugniy. Her husband was released in March, but negotiations continued for her and her nephew’s freedom.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) held multiple protests and repeatedly called on the Federal Government to secure her release.
