Constituents commence move for Senator Natasha’s recall

The battles of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Nduaghan seem far from over. Indications that move to recall the Kogi Central lawmaker from the upper house of the National Assembly are underway became clear this Wednesday.

Some of her constituents filed out in the morning to take part in the recall process. People enlisted into the scheme came out to append their signatures to what may be a petition for the recall.

It was gathered that messages had gone out on Tuesday evening through the town criers notifying people about an empowerment program. Intended beneficiaries were encouraged to come with their voter’s card for registration the following day.

The plot worked in many places. In the Okehi Local Government, many constituents reportedly turned out in support of the recall.

However, the state resident electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet, denied any knowledge of the alleged recall move.

“I am not aware of any recall process, apart from the unconfirmed reports flying about on social media.

“No one has contacted me about any recall in any part of the state,” Longpet said.

Natasha is on suspension from the Senate for gross misconduct. Her protest over the change of her sitting position in the chamber snowballed into a shouting match with Senate President Godswill Apkabio, who she eventually accused of sexual harassment.

She escalated the accusation in media houses and at an international forum.

Meanwhile, a group, Ebira Progressives (EP), has reportedly fingered Senate President Godswill Akpabio in concert with former Governor Yahaya Bello as plotting the recall.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson, Abdulhamid Itopa, the group claimed the duo are perfecting their plans on the scheme.
