The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the reports as “false and baseless,” stressing that they did not originate from the Ministry.
“At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Alausa clarified.
He reaffirmed that JAMB remains the legally recognized body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
“The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational. Any contrary information should be ignored,” the Minister said.
The Ministry urged prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely only on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for verified information about admission policies.
Alausa reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and credibility in the admission process, adding that collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies remains strong.
“We will continue to protect the integrity of the admission process and ensure that merit and due process prevail,” he stated.
The Ministry also cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms against spreading unverified information capable of misleading the public or causing confusion in the education sector.
It emphasized that there has been no change in JAMB’s role, which remains central and indispensable to Nigeria’s tertiary education admission framework.
“Any publication suggesting otherwise, it said, “is completely false and should be disregarded.”
