ACF Denies Claims of Bias in criticising Tinubu

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has emphasized that its critiques of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are just as intense as those directed at former President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership.

According to Murtala Aliyu, ACF’s Secretary-General, the forum maintains a consistent stance in its criticism, acting out of concern for national interests rather than regional or partisan bias.

During an interview on Arise TV’s News Night, Aliyu highlighted that while ACF is a politically minded organization, it avoids affiliation with any political party. Addressing the notion that the ACF’s stance is influenced by Tinubu’s southern origin, he stated, “It’s unfair to suggest that our criticisms are based on regional bias. We were strong critics of the last administration, and our record reflects this consistency. Our primary goal is to advocate for governmental accountability and improvements where needed.”

Aliyu clarified that ACF’s role is to promote the interests of the northern states as part of its commitment to the well-being of Nigeria as a whole. “We believe that the responsibility to select candidates lies with political parties. While we evaluate who might best serve the country and the northern region, we avoid partisanship and remain dedicated to fostering unity and progress for all Nigerians.”

These remarks followed reports of ACF’s supposed endorsement of a northern candidate for the 2027 general election. Recently, Mamman Osuman, the ACF’s national chairman, expressed frustration over northern leaders’ lack of progress on issues impacting the region, including economic hardships exacerbated by recent policies. Osuman reportedly announced that the forum would support a northern candidate in the upcoming election, though this statement led to his suspension by the ACF. The forum stated that Osuman acted without consulting other members, and his position did not reflect the organization’s official stance.

In summary, the ACF reaffirms its dedication to constructive critique and its mission to uphold northern interests within a united Nigeria, dispelling any claims of regional favoritism or opposition based on political or regional affiliations.
