Eberechi Eze of Arsenal ran away with the spotlight after hitting a superb hat-trick past north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Tottenham saw them go six points clear at the top of the table. They are unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions. Mikel Arteta’s men look like a well-oiled machine, making a strong push to put an end to their Premier League title drought.
The last time the Gunners (Arsenal) won the English championship (Premier League) was in 2004 when they won it unbeaten, but after three consecutive runners-up finishes, this year could probably be their year.
Last season’s champions Liverpool are the only team to have beaten Arsenal this season, back in August.
Liverpool, since then, have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches. Their most recent defeat came against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. Nottingham Forest, battling relegation, smashed Liverpool 3-0 as they fight to stay afloat in the Premier League.
Head coach of Liverpool, Arne Slot, still seems to be searching for the right blend after his expensive squad rebuild.
Signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have both struggled significantly. Signed for a British-record £125 million nearly three months ago, Isak is yet to score a league goal for Liverpool.
Captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the players are letting their manager down, but Slot said he accepts responsibility for Liverpool’s slump into the bottom half of the table.
“I can never come up with enough excuses to have the results we have,” Slot said. “That is far from good enough, and I’m responsible for that.”
Manchester City were defeated at Newcastle on Saturday, and Chelsea got their fifth win in six league games, which saw them move into second place.
