FUL suspends lectures to mourn 5 students killed in an accident

Management of the Federal University, Lokoja, FUL, has commiserated with the parents, friends, and its entire community over the tragic accident that claimed the lives of five students on Monday afternoon.

An articulated vehicle had ramned into a university shuttle bus after experiencing break failure at the Felele axis of the ever busy Lokoja/ Abuja highway. Killing many persons, including the students.

The university, in a condolence statement on Tuesday, signed by Vincent Ifedayo Ojo, Deputy Registrar Human Resource described the accident as one too many and declared lecture free days in honour of the victims. The statement reads:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic loss of five of our promising students, who were taken away from us too soon in a fatal trailer accident. This wanton loss of lives is
one accident, too many, leaving our university community in deep sorrow and grief.

“In honour of the departed souls and as a mark of respect, the University Management has declared lecture-free days effective from 12 noon on Tuesday, 18th February and all -day Wednesday, 19th February 2025.

“Furthermore, all university activities will be observed on a low-key, while the institution’s flag will fly at half -mast as a symbol of mourning.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and the entire university community during this difficult time. May God grant them merciful judgement and rest their souls in eternal peace.”
