Since gaining independence in 1960, Nigeria has experienced various challenges, achievements, and setbacks. However, our determination to progress remains unmatched. At 64 years, Nigeria is still a youthful nation, with over 60% of our population being young people. This youthful demographic is not just a representation of our future but also the key to our present progress.

“The youth of Nigeria are more than mere spectators in the journey of nation-building; they are the catalysts for innovation and change. Through their creativity, resilience, and passion, young Nigerians are charting new paths that will ultimately shape the destiny of our country.

“As Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kogi State, working under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, a man who carries a clear vision and genuine intentions for our dear state, in consolidation of the tremendous works done by his predecessor, His Excellency, former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello. We firmly believe that the future of our nation and dear state are tied to the empowerment of its young people. His Excellency, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has always emphasized that investing in the youth is crucial for the prosperity of our nation, and it is through this investment that we can unlock the full potential of Nigeria.”

Anyebe noted that Kogi State has made youth development a top priority. “Our government is creating an environment that fosters entrepreneurship, skills development, and technological advancement. Through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, we have implemented programs designed to equip young people with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed. By providing platforms for mentorship, leadership development, and vocational training, we are helping to cultivate a generation of leaders who are prepared to drive economic growth and societal progress.

“Our commitment to promoting youth entrepreneurship is evident through our skill acquisition programs, which have empowered countless young people in technology, agriculture, and vocational trades. By providing access to these opportunities, we are creating jobs and fostering a culture of self-reliance among the youth. This will not only reduce unemployment but also ensure long-term sustainable economic growth.

“In addition to entrepreneurship, we recognize the critical role of sports in youth development. Sports serve as a powerful tool for uniting communities and fostering discipline, while also offering significant career opportunities for young people. Our state is investing heavily in sports development, with the aim of nurturing talent and promoting careers that will not only bring honor to Nigeria but also provide a source of livelihood for our young people.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, technology is reshaping every aspect of life, and it is essential that our youth are equipped to thrive in this new era. Kogi State is committed to advancing education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), ensuring that our young people have the skills necessary to compete globally. By investing in innovation and technology, we are preparing our youth to become problem-solvers, entrepreneurs, and leaders in a technology-driven world.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, today’s celebration is not only about reflecting on our past but also envisioning the future we want to create. As we look back on 64 years of independence, we must also look ahead to a future where the youth are at the forefront of Nigeria’s transformation. Our administration is fully committed to empowering young people to lead the charge in driving the nation’s economic, social, and technological advancements.
