Nigerians have been charged to show the right reflex to community service political activities and other civic duties.
Mr. Segun Fasiku, Chairman, Responsible Amity Men’s Club, RAM-C, gave the charge in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on Sunday. He spoke during the 10th anniversary and award night of the group, which was held at Lilly Ground Hotel.
He said although menbers of the club which was formed in 2014 do not belong to any political party, they are encouraged to be on the look out for responsible and committed men of integrity across party lines that could be promoted for political office.
While emphasizing the values that define members of the club, he noted that the time has come for well-meaning Nigerians not to stay aloof from politics or leave politics for politicians alone. He pointed to Architect Salman Idris member representing Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly as a product of the club, emphasing that his stewardship has been satisfactory.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving individuals. Those honoured included Femi Abdul (pioneer President of the group), Mrs Joan Yemi Olorunmaiye, pioneer secretary Kogi State House of Assembly Service Commission, Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Babatunde Moses (aka Bablo) an Abuja based astute banker and Ambassador Olusiji Aina, a development expert and economist.
Fanwo commended the club for finding him worthy of the award. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to human capital and community development, adding that the award is a call to do more for humanity.
Another awardee, Bablo, said the recognition caught him unawares. The data scientist also thanked the RAM-C for the honour, noting that it would spur him to more for the people. “I was brought up in an environment of strong communal service. We were taught to be our brother’s keeper and to commit to the needs of others. The little we are doing is because of our sincere belief that whatever is good ought to go around and we all need help. May we always be available to fill the gap for others.” He said.
